Job Title: Horizontal Directional Driller (HDD Operator)

Pay Range: $22–$26 per hour (based on experience)
We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Horizontal Directional Driller (HDD Operator) to join our utility construction team in New Orleans, Louisiana. In this role, you will operate directional drilling equipment to install underground utilities such as fiber optic, water, sewer, gas, and electrical lines with minimal surface disruption. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with HDD equipment, understands bore planning and drilling operations, and can work closely with a crew to safely and efficiently complete projects.
Experience operating Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) equipment in construction or utility work.
Knowledge of directional drilling operations and underground utility installation.
Ability to read basic bore plans, construction drawings, and utility locates.
Understanding of job site safety procedures and compliance with safety regulations.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and assist with physical labor when required.
Strong teamwork, communication skills, and attention to safety.
Experience installing fiber optic, telecom, water, sewer, gas, or electrical utilities.
Familiarity with HDD locating and tracking systems.
Experience with drilling fluid (mud) mixing and management.
CDL (Commercial Driver’s License).
Experience operating support equipment such as mini excavators, skid steers, or vacuum trucks.
Knowledge of bore planning, job site setup, and site restoration.
Operate horizontal directional drilling equipment safely and efficiently.
Perform drilling operations for underground utility installations.
Set up, align, and operate drilling rigs and related equipment.
Monitor drilling fluid systems and maintain proper mud circulation.
Read and interpret bore plans, job site drawings, and utility markings.
Coordinate closely with locators and ground crews during drilling operations.
Maintain bore path accuracy using tracking and locating systems.
Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance issues.
Follow company safety procedures and applicable regulations.
Assist with other job site duties when required.
Full-time position. Work hours may vary based on project needs. Overtime and occasional weekend work may be required.
