Salary

$47,000 - $49,140 Annually, Full-Time Non-Exempt 
$25.83-$27.00 Hourly

Location

Co-located with the LAPD Central Division DART team. Must be able to work independently in a law enforcement environment, maintain professionalism and confidentiality, and build effective working relationships with law enforcement and multidisciplinary partners. 

Summary

Peace Over Violence seeks a compassionate, professional, and highly motivated Domestic Violence Specialist/Advocate to provide trauma-informed crisis intervention, advocacy, and case management services to survivors of domestic violence. The ideal candidate is an independent problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment, exercises sound judgment in crisis situations, and is committed to empowering survivors through comprehensive needs assessments, safety planning, advocacy, and coordinated support services. The Domestic Violence Specialist/Advocate partners with the Los Angeles Police Department's Central through the Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART) to provide on-scene crisis response, comprehensive advocacy, case management, and follow-up services. Responsibilities include conducting needs and safety assessments, assisting with Domestic Violence Restraining Orders (DVROs), criminal justice advocacy, shelter and community referrals, and maintaining an active caseload. Candidates must be comfortable working independently in a law enforcement environment and have a flexible schedule to meet operational needs. This position is an integral part of Peace Over Violence's Intervention Division and collaborates closely with the Emergency Response Team (ERT) to ensure coordinated advocacy, crisis response, and case management services for survivors. 

Responsibilities

Case Management/Crisis Intervention

• Respond to domestic violence incidents (on-scene) in partnership with the Los Angeles Police Department's Domestic Abuse Response Team assigned Officer to provide immediate, trauma-informed crisis intervention, advocacy, safety planning, and resource coordination.

• Provide trauma informed crisis intervention services through telephonic and in-person crisis, intervention counseling, advocacy, accompaniment, resource referrals.

• Conduct comprehensive client intake, needs, risk assessments and safety assessments to determine eligibility and facilitate access to Peace Over Violence's counseling, case management, legal advocacy, and supportive services.

• Manage an active caseload by developing individualized service plans, coordinating services, monitoring client progress, and conducting ongoing follow-up to support survivor safety, stability, and self-sufficiency.

• Provide comprehensive advocacy services, including safety planning, Domestic Violence Restraining Order (DVRO) assistance, personal and criminal justice advocacy, court accompaniment, referrals, and coordination with prosecutors, law enforcement, and community service providers.

• Educate survivors on the dynamics of domestic violence, available legal protections, victim rights, and community resources to support informed decision-making.

• Assist survivors with applications for the California Victim Compensation Board (CalVCB), Safe at Home Program, and other victim assistance programs, as appropriate.

• Support the Intervention Division's Emergency Response Team (ERT) by assisting with hotline call overflow and crisis response services, as needed.

• Maintain collaborative working relationships with DART officers, multidisciplinary partners, and community agencies to ensure coordinated, survivor-centered services.

Community Outreach/Training

• Conduct outreach and deliver educational presentations to community groups, schools, partner agencies, law enforcement, and other organizations on domestic violence, available services, and violence prevention.

• Develop and facilitate professional trainings for law enforcement personnel, social service providers, healthcare professionals, and community partners.

• Conduct law enforcement Roll Call briefings to strengthen referral partnerships, increase program awareness, and provide resource updates.

• Attend multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, trainings, workshops, and professional development opportunities to strengthen collaboration and maintain current knowledge of best practices.

Administrative

• Document client services, assessments, and case activities in the organization's electronic case management system while maintaining accurate, timely, and confidential records.

• Maintain complete client files and ensure documentation complies with organizational policies, confidentiality requirements, and applicable grant and contract regulations.

• Collect, monitor, and report client and program data in accordance with funding requirements and organizational standards.

• Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, statistics, and other required program documentation by established deadlines.

• Participate in program meetings, supervision, quality assurance activities, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support the mission, goals, and operational needs of Peace Over Violence.

Qualifications

• Completion of, or willingness to complete, Peace Over Violence's 82-hour Counselor Advocate Training or an equivalent state-approved domestic violence advocacy training.

• Demonstrated knowledge of trauma-informed crisis intervention, domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, stalking, elder abuse, victim advocacy, and crisis counseling principles.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement, criminal justice professionals, social service providers, and community partners.

• Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, trauma-informed, survivor-centered services to victims of crime and their families.

• Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment in crisis situations, manage an active caseload, and prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, public speaking, and group facilitation skills.

• Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and linguistic backgrounds.

• Ability to successfully pass a Department of Justice (DOJ) background check.

• Valid California driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel throughout Los Angeles County.

• Commitment to maintaining professional boundaries, practicing self-care, and managing the emotional demands of crisis intervention work.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, email, internet navigation, electronic case management systems, and data entry.

• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts, based on operational needs and peak call volume.

• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is highly desirable.
  

Work Schedule

The current scheduled shift is 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Work hours and shifts are subject to change based on call volume, staffing needs, and operational requirements. This position requires flexibility to work adjusted shifts as needed to support periods of high call volume and service needs.
