Job Description

Community and Family Resources is seeking a dynamic individual to join our medical billing team. This position works under our Revenue Cycle Manager to complete all duties related to billing clients for behavioral health services. The role is located at our Iowa City location.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Verify grant eligibility and ensure compliance with grant funding requirements.
  • Verify that appropriate release of information and required patient consent are signed and current prior to billing.
  • Enter and maintain accurate patient, payer, and authorization information in the billing system.
  • Review and clear counselor documentation into billable services, following up on any posting errors as need.
  • Submit claims to third-party payers and monitor claim status through resolution.
  • Follow up on denials and rejections, correct errors, and resubmit claims as appropriate.
  • Identify scheduled services missing required clinical documentation and follow up with counselors to obtain notes.
  • Assist with billing and exception reports and take corrective action as needed.
  • Make billing corrections to ensure accurate claims submission and payment posting.
  • Response to inquiries from clients, counselors, and internal staff regarding billing questions and issues.
  • Set up and manage patient payment plans in accordance with organization policies.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in accounting required; Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred
  • Experience with Managed Care Practices preferred, with 3-5 years of experience in medical billing a plus, but not required.

Schedule:

  • Type: Full-time
  • Hours: 40 hours each week, generally Monday-Friday, 8a-4:30p (with flexibility to start earlier or later if preferred)
